You basically need the junk to create end game weapons and clothes to create high level A,S,E outfits. Wasteland exploring is only needed up to 100 dwellers or less even, after that you get unough junk from missions (3 missions at a time). Doing that you can build level 3 rooms without having to worry about attacks and critters in the vault. The important thing about maxing a vault is that every dweller gets endurance training right way and only after max endurence you level them up and give them 15+ damage weapons. Also enough room for producing stimpacks and radaway, I have 300 stimpacks ready at all time. Most of the junk you don't need later on and can be deleted right away. If you also have a few rooms that are constantly crafting weapons and clothes you have enough room with 300 storage points. Nah there is also enough space for storage rooms. inventory hassle is a huge part of the endgame. Once you reach 180 dwellers all the training rooms can be deleted again and you have more space than you will need. When I builded up my 200pop vault I had so many training rooms that I could train 18 dwellers at a time on any of the skills.
